NO BUTS

NO BUTS

How is it that as a youth and young man Jesus had crowds forming to hear and see Him? As His message concerning His mission was told the crowds in those last months and days gradually fell away from Him. The Samaritans refused to receive Him into one of their villages because His face was set evidently toward Jerusalem. Christ never stopped pleading with men to follow Him though. One man stands out with his answer to that question to follow Him and Luke tells us he said “I will follow Thee, Lord; but ...” There is no reason to suppose whether he ever did or didn’t follow Him.
If we consider the suggestiveness of the call of Christ, we shall discover in it a demand made for confidence and submission. Confronting a man sitting in the midst of his daily work, and looking into his eyes and said, “Follow Me,” and we at once see that He meant: trust Me, trust yourself to Me, put confidence in Me, and obey Me. It is His claim of supremacy and His call to submission to that supremacy. Guidance and victory should follow such supremacy. There are no buts after saying “I will follow” that deserve any value placed on the reason.
Men fail to recognize Who backs that request and what He was willing to go through in order to make sure their future. Words are cheap in our society today solely due to the people who voice the words.
Sufficient reason has been provided to gain the trust for the words He spoke. The only Book which contain those words; the only Book God ever wrote. The only Book which contains pure truth.
How few go to it for instruction, for comfort, for correction, for reproof, for training in righteousness. Those words call an end to foolish ways that men seem to enjoy. Some of the same paths that "supposed" Christians take with dusty Bibles sitting on their shelves at home.
For the end which He demands “That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.” There are no buts, better to get started while you still have time.
