TEMPTATION OF JESUS (CHURCH)

Temptation of Jesus-Church Temptation Today

Satan made use of scripture promises which are true of His kingdom to tempt Jesus. And also the churches on earth today.

Psa. 91:10-12 No evil will befall you, nor will any plague come near your tent. For He will give His angels charge concerning you, to guard you in all your ways. They will bear you up in their hands, that you do not strike your foot against a stone.

These verses speak of the freedom from ordinary hazards, weather, wild beasts, warfare, and famine which are gone in the Kingdom of God. Satan was attempting to bring the Kingdom into reality out of time.
Cf. Also Ezek. 34:23-31.
Christ knew the promises of God to be sure.
Beginning with the Man upon the physical side of His Being, he offered Him bread as the sole necessary sustenance of life; Satan’s kingdom entertained the materialistic ideal that all man needs is bread, which makes bread a basis for the Kingdom, acting as though a kingdom depended upon material things alone (feed the people); proceeding to the spiritual essential, he suggested that He should traffic with His relationship and tempt God; spiritual selfishness of Satan exposed within his kingdom, if you recognize spiritual things, they are to be recognized for the purpose of the enrichment and the comfort of those which receive them (wealth is yours); until reaching the ultimate purpose of the being of the Man, His vocation, he suggested that He should obtain the end, reach the goal, possess the Kingdom, by the method of political intrigue, by diplomatic arrangement and compromise, kingdoms made to be federated into a single kingdom, by yielding a moment's homage to himself. New age thinking.
First men were acting as though a kingdom depended upon material things alone.
Second, the false ideal of selfishness is exposed; the ideal that within the Kingdom, if you recognize spiritual things, they are to be recognized in order to the enrichment and the comfort of those who receive them.
Finally the ideal of political intrigue, the suggestion that by diplomatic arrangement and compromise kingdoms may be federated into a kingdom. Accept all the false doctrines to promote yours.
