Why God Came To Earth
The ramifications of God coming to earth in the man Jesus:
1. Man will now know for certain what sort of character the Eternal God possesses. What He calls good and what He calls bad as He humanly interprets His words of truth called scripture.
2. The true facts about man and God, the perennial questions concerning such issues of pain, suffering and death which create anxieties in man, the dim hope of a permanent world which is to follow. These and scores of other claimant questions will now have a fixed reference point, by which they can be adjusted if not settled.
3. A man will be able to gain first-hand information as to "what life is all about" and as to how he can cooperate with the plan and the Power behind time, space, and the created universe.
4. A man can look at God's words as He describes an absolutely unique event in the history of the earth; God Himself coping with life on the very terms He has imposed upon His creatures. They will not be seeing God seated on high on a throne, but down in the battlefield of life.
The truth taught by Jesus Christ is the right way to live. It is not primarily a religion, not even the best religion, but God Himself explaining in terms that men can readily grasp how life is meant to be lived.
Naturally since there is a God and life in His idea, and since "religion" is by definition what connects man and God, there will be a religious flavor to the matter, but we shall fall into a familiar error if we fail to see that Christ is giving direction to the whole of life, and is not Himself, as we so often are, dividing off a particular section and calling it "religious." We are spirit in our make-up along with body and soul. Religion therefore enters into the picture whether a man wants it to or not.
