Gospels-Person of Christ
The fourfold gospel presents the Person of Christ as a King Who serves, a Servant Who reigns, a Man fulfilling absolutely the highest ideal of life, and yet One Who transcends all these descriptions, until the fisher of the Galilean lake who leaned his head upon His bosom, and listened to the beating of His heart, describes Him in the mystic words, "The Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory."
- God, Incarnate
- Man, unfallen, unsinning, absolutely fulfilling the highest ideal of mankind.
- The Savior of the unfit by way of the Cross, and by no other way.
- The Lord, not primarily by His teaching, nor by His example, but by the infinite, final miracle of His resurrection from among the dead.
- Matthew presents Him as King, and we see Him in His royalty
- Mark presents Him as a Servant, absolutely surrendered to the will of God.
- Luke presents Him as far as His nature, in His absolute perfection of His human nature.
- John enables us to touch more familiarity than any other the warm flesh of the Man of Nazareth, yet causes us to feel the thrill of Deity.
New Testament interprets The Christ by declaring that He was God incarnate, perfect Man, Savior by the way of the cross, and Lord by the resurrection.
Acts-Christ Unstraightened
No longer "straightened."
Better title The Continuation of the Doing and Teaching of the Christ by the Holy Spirit through the Members of His Mystical Body, the Church.
Acts is a continuation of the story of the Kingly Christ reincarnated in kingly men, who conquer as they go. The serving Christ is reproduced in a multitude of serving souls. The ideal Man is found in multitudes who manifest a type of life such as the world had never seen. The manifestation of God is continued in those who, being "partakers of the Divine nature," show forth the Excellencies of Him who called them out of darkness into light.
