Good God?
When little children are hurt and/or killed, is the Moral Governor of the universe good? Where is God?
These are questions we should ask in the presence of the Cross. Some infinite mystery lies behind that death and that suffering that awaits the revelation of God. And He will give you that revelation as you can understand it.
John 10:11 Life through Death
For in Jesus we see a life, perfect in light, perfect in love, perfect in essential life, and yet priests in malicious hatred inspired the brutal government of the Roman power to lay foul hands on the fair life and murder it. Where was God?
When I stand in the presence of the Cross, I ask, "Is God good, and is He powerful?"
Christ answers these questions with one word that begins to unfold the mystery behind the death in John 10:11. "I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep."
Christ knows of these issues. No one took His life, for He says He laid it down Himself. He took it up again, not for Himself, but for other men. He did both "by the commandment of His Father."
He possessed a life that was so obedient that even in death He responded to the command of His Father.
Jesus died for His friends-John 15:13.
He also dies for His enemies-Rom. 5:10.
The highest revelation of His love is made in His death.
He Who came to bear our sin, must also die our death for "the wages of sin is death." Rom. 6:23.
"O now, O lord our God, deliver us from our own desires, that all who see this work of Yours may know that Thou alone, O Lord, art God." 2 Kings 19:19
