Teach Us to Pray
The circumstances when they asked Jesus to teach them “TO PRAY” instead of “HOW TO PRAY” were that they were observing Him constantly at prayer. Jesus Himself was pre-eminently a Man of prayer, and there was no doubt that they had often seen Him at prayer, in all probability had heard Him. Although He never prayed with them or used of His own prayers the same words He used of theirs, yet it was clearly manifest to them how much prayer meant to Him, and it is as though they had said, "We desire to come into this secret of Yours." They saw the value of prayer in His life. He gave them a pattern and a parable. He recited of certain sentences from His Sermon on the Mount. And then He gave them a parable to reveal and contrast His Fathers willingness to hear and answer them. (Luke 11:1-13) He Himself was the ultimate answer to their request.
The spiritual man or woman has many things to talk to his or her Savior about, even the things that they have just read in His love book He left them to read each day.
