SEE HIM AS HE IS?
1 John 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
See Him as He is. What in the world does that phrase mean?
We are in a process at this point called sanctification. This heavily depends on truth and the assimilation of truth found only in the Bible, breathed out from God’s mouth which always accomplishes what it sets out to do. Obedience to truth elevates one to be as He is.
Cf. Luke 6:40 The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master. That is at the end of the sanctification process which prepares one for his eternal work which needs an eternal body.
John 15:15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. You no longer have to follow His lead blindly.
Eventually you shall be like him. We have been predestined “to be conformed to the image of His Son” (Romans 8:29), because when He comes again, He “shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto His glorious body” (Philippians 3:21). He will “make all things new” again (Revelation 21:5). Although the Bible does not say specifically, perhaps this means that those who died in old age will be made young again, and those who died in infancy will grow to vigorous maturity, so that all who are Christ’s “shall be like Him.” He displayed that glorious body to the disciples after rising from the dead. It could walk through closed doors. It could eat fish.
Adam and Eve were supernaturally and suddenly created by God; they did not gradually evolve from the animal kingdom. They were created physically; not just spiritually. They were created in the image and likeness of their personal, infinite, eternal Creator; not like animals which lack that image. They were created by God to exercise total dominion as "king and queen" over a perfect and complete world; they did not rule as subordinates to a fallen angel (Satan) in a world full of the marks of destruction, death or decay. They were not only unique in their physical perfection in all of human history, but were also the most brilliant human beings the world will ever know, apart from Christ, their incarnate Creator, until the day of glorification when all of God's people will be like Him when they see Him as He really is (1 John 3:2). They had 100% use of their brains and were being fed information directly from their Creator so they could perform their dominion work as king and queen over their perfect environment. Isn’t it interesting that the perfect environment needed the touch and care of the two.
Surely the words of rebuke given by our Lord to the two on the road to Emmaus must be applicable to many Christians today: "O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken" (Luke 24:25). Our basic problem today in the question of origins is not so much that we are ignorant of the theories and speculations of men. Our problem too often is that we know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God, and the things He said concerning origins in the Gospels and therefore deeply err in communicating God's message to modern man. May God be pleased to grant to each of us a renewing of our minds through submission to His special revelation of truth in His infallible Word, that we might prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Don't read it with preconcieved ideas concerning origins.
Christ was the firstborn among many brethren according to Rom. 8:29. That means what those disciples viewed of the risen Christ meant there were many more to follow that Firstborn One, because when He comes again, He “shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto His glorious body” (Philippians 3:21). 1 John 3:2 states this fact, Eph. 1:4 says He hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love; 1 Cor. 1:8 also says Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. The hope of the Christian is the perfect reflection of the Creators nature by the full attainment of that nature. If we can’t trust what He says about how this world was created by Him, why would we believe that we shall end up as He has said numerous times in His book? Can science figure out our end? They can’t even begin to tell us how it all started. I don’t even want them to say the first thing concerning the end for they can't agree with Him on the start of this creation.
There is a part of the work of Christ exclusively confined to the elect, first-born saints who inherit the Kingdom, which so far exceeds all our powers, that it can only be stated, leaving the future, by blessed experience, to determine its nature and glory. "Flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of God," i.e. one who is accounted worthy of being a King and Priest in this Kingdom must be such in a different form from the present. To be qualified for rulership he must not only be holy, etc., in reference to soul but must have an immortal, indestructible, mighty, heavenly body as Paul describes in 1 Cor. 15:40. It is no longer an earthly body, earthly in its makeup and nature, but heavenly and spiritual. Hence it is distinctly stated that saints shall be made (1 John 3:2) like unto Christ, and Phil. 3:21, Christ at His appearing "shall change this vile body that it may be fashioned like unto His glorious body," etc. The body itself undergoes a transformation, resulting in glorification. Just as Christ assumed human nature to bring Himself in covenanted relationship to man, and to obtain the covenanted Theocratic order as David's Son and Lord, and, by virtue of the sacrifice offered by Himself, took upon Himself human nature in its glorified form to be qualified for His reign, so we, if united with Christ in salvation and the higher Theocratic relationship, must, by His aid, take upon ourselves the same transformed nature to receive the proper qualifications. This future identity with Christ and actual assumption of His (i.e. like unto His) transformed human nature scripture, specifically locates its reception at the Second Advent. As there are things connected with Christ in His person and aims, in His divinity and glorified humanity, which transcend the grasp of our present knowledge, so in virtue of this union with Christ and the consequent transformation into His likeness, there are things which, owing to our limited understanding, we see but imperfectly, and others which are now beyond our comprehension. We look through a glass darkly. We need eternal glorified eyes that see as He does.
1 Peter 1:4-5 says this about being like Him, seeing Him as He is, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Psalm 115:8. <like Him> The reference is to the Father. There is something more for us, something grander. Now our minds are being renewed, our love is being rekindled, and we are learning the will of the Father in order to perform it. We are not at the end of the process but at the beginning. We are learning a new alphabet. We SHALL BE like Him, walking in light with Him Who dwells in light, that is the highest function of intelligence; acting in love with Him Who is essential Love, that is the highest possibility of the emotional nature; like Him operating in power under Him Who is essential Life, and whose will is therefore perfect in its goings, that is the final action of the human will. We will have EYES to see Him as He is. Brains to co-operate and think like He does and a body that will last forever because His work for us as kings (and priests) will make a display to higher intelligences forever.
