THE ISSUES OF THE JUDGMENT OF THE CROSS

THE ISSUES OF THE JUDGMENT OF THE CROSS

  • The Issues of this Judgment Concerning Sin
Christ bore away sin in that He served as the sacrifice for sin. John 1:29
"The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world."

Christ put away sin in that he satisfied fully the need for sacrifice for sin. Heb. 9:26
"For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself."

Christ's sacrifice for sin made it clear that there is no other sacrifice for sin. Heb. 10:26-31
"For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God."

  • The Issues of this Judgment Concerning Sinners Those who continue to reject the work of the Cross.
The world of sinners lies within the control of the evil one. 1 John 5:19 ASV
"And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness."

The world of sinners follows the course of the evil one. John 8:44
"Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it."

The world of sinners will experience the calamity of the evil one. 1 John 2:15-17
"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever."

  • The Issues of this Judgment Concerning Believers. Those who finally accept the work of the cross.
By death Christ delivered from the bondage to the law. Fully satisfied the law. Rom. 7:6
"But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter."

By death Christ delivered from the sentence upon sin. Paid the penalty in full. Rom. 8:1
"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit."

By death Christ delivered from the attraction of the world. Separated both by death. Gal. 6:14
"But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world."

By death Christ delivered from the power of sin. Sin nature rendered inoperative. Rom. 6:6-7
"Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin."
