SCRIPTURE IS A WORK OF PRESERVATION

SCRIPTURE IS A WORK OF PRESERVATION
God preserves the Record

"What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision? Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God."

Importance of This

Might Have Perished After a Single Generation
Might Have Become Mixed and Distorted (for example, the Babylonian account of the flood)
 Bible speaks of this work:
Deut. 10:5 "Put the tables in the Ark" (Most closely guarded place in Israel. Shows God was interested in what He had said).

Jer. 36:27, 32 Burned in the fire, but rewritten by Jeremiah.
"Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,"
"Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides unto them many like words."
Rom. 3:1-2 "Unto them were committed the oracles of God."
Mainly a providential work - cf. Examples above
(1) Whenever lost, it was found again.

But viewed in its Continuance - the work is miraculous
cf. Isa. 40:6-8 Steps may not be miraculous, but the whole picture is.
"The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field: The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass. The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever."
