64 A.D. the church as Paul knew it was practicing this rite. (1 Tim. 5:10)
94 A.D. or about 90. John the apostle wrote of the same ordinance.

2b.   The second century church practiced the rite.
Irenaeus, a disciple of Polycarp, who was a disciple of John wrote of this rite. He lived 130-200 A.D.  (Yoder, page 338)
Tertullian spoke of the rite. (160-190 A.D.) (Yoder, page 339)
