HOLY OF HOLIES

Burnt offerings are offered first on the brazen alter on a 3 step approach to God in the tabernacle. Next they proceed to the laver and finally to the Holy of Holies. Pictured in John 12-17 while the death of Christ is described. Cf. John 12:23-24.

In the annuls of history there never was such naked, awful manifestation of evil as the action that put Him on the cross; and to that bursting of the storm of evil He bared His own bosom by laying down His life;  He gathered all of that anarchy into His own Person, and in some infinite transaction beyond human power of thought, He destroyed the works of the devil. That is the holy of holies! That is the central and constant mystery! One cannot comprehend that transaction, because one cannot apprehend the Person Who accomplished it.

He emerged from that dark hour triumphant in the glory of His resurrection. He took all that sin focused in the membership of the Sanhedrim, gathered it to Himself, and deal with it, grapple with it, master it, negative it; and emerge from the struggle victorious, communicate life, in the power of which other soulos shall be able to enter into the same struggle, and with the same result.

In order to establish the Kingdom of God in an individual, He dealt with that which had destroyed the Kingdom of God; and created for men a new liberty of action, both spiritual and moral.
