THE 70th WEEK OF DANIEL & ISRAEL'S JUDGMENT

The Seventieth Week of Daniel and Israel's Judgment  11:1-14
This is an inset

The Preparatory Measuring and its Meaning 11:1-2
"And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein." "But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months."

The Occasion for the Measuring Cf. la
A reed, a measuring stick, is placed in the apostle's hand by the angel spoken of in chapter 10. This angel was sent with delegated authority to take possession of the earth. The measuring then was occasioned by the plans of the Lord to eject the usurpers and take over his possession. The measuring is a symbolic act pointing to appropriation. (Instance of measuring windows of house next door.) cf. Ezek. 40:3; 45:1-7; Zech. 2:1-5.
The Objects Which are Being Measured vs. lb-2a
The things that are Jewish vs. lb
The temple, the sacred place of worship.
The altar, the place where atonement is made.
The people, the worshippers in the temple.
This signifies that God is beginning again to deal with the nation of Israel. This is Daniel's seventieth week (Dan. 9:27).
The Things That are Gentile  vs. 2a
The outer court is the Gentile court, and it is not to be measured. During this time he will not deal with the Gentiles except in retribution. The times of the Gentiles are running out (Luke 21:24).
"And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled."

The Outcome of the Measuring vs. 2b
The Jews come back into their land and make covenant with Antichrist for one week (7 years), Dan. 9:27. During the first 31/2 years they enjoy great prosperity at his hand. Then in the midst of that week, he breaks the covenant and begins persecution of them.
"And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate."

During the last 31/2 years this persecution continues. It is here spoken of as 42 months. During this time the temple (God's temple) is desecrated by Antichrist (2 Thess. 2:3-4).
"Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;" "Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God."

The altar (God's altar), the place where reconciliation is made, ceases to be used. Sacrifice and oblation cease (Dan. 9:27). The people become the objects of awful persecution at the hand of the Antichrist (Rev. 12:6, 13).
"And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days."
"And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child."
