Will Heaven and Earth Ever Pass Away?
Scripture says that it will and
what is meant by that takes scripture to properly interpret that so as not to
miss the meaning. Pass away is a modern slang for death. And the death of
heaven and earth is spoken of in two verses in the New Testament.
Matt. 5:18 “For
verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall
in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.”
And also….
Matt. 24:35 “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”
Other verses help in our
understanding of that death. The law demands the "death" of man’s habitat which sin brought vast changes
to the original creation. Cf. Matt 24:35. The Bible helps in the fact that it
speaks of a "new heaven and
earth." (Rev. 21:1) There are two Greek words which are translated “new.” One stands for totally original
while the other is rejuvenated {restored to its original intent} [kainos] as
the "new heavens and the new
earth."
Psalms 119:90 says "Thou didst establish the earth and it
stands." The plan of God therefore stabilizes the material universe
and like our bodies in 1 Cor. 15 awaits a rearrangement.
The new heavens and the new earth
are (kainos) Rev. 21:1 which is by regeneration not by a creative act but by a
regenerative, rearranging act. Man after salvations threefold work being
completed secures the vast changes for the heavens and earth back to the
original state and better which awaited the revelation of the sons of God
according to Romans 8:19-22.
Rev. 21:1 “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the
first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.”
The heavens and earth that
suffered the curse alongside man was brought to death that the “new heavens and earth” might be
revealed that we read of in the early pages of Genesis.
Come quickly Lord Jesus!!!
