The Name of the Church

This word means continual sacrifice. This is significant in that the mass of Roman Catholicism is declared to be the continual sacrifice of Christ. This is in direct contradiction to the words of Scripture (Heb. 9:26) and hence a denial of the finished work of Christ. From 500 A.D. on, Roman Catholicism has carried on the mass as the most important part of their worship.
"For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself."

The Condition of the Church

As we shall see from an exposition of the condition of the church, this is typical of that period in which Catholicism changed its nature in the years since.

Mariolatry, image and crucifix worship, veneration of the saints, and the adoration of the host are only idolatry masked by a Christian exterior. Purgatory, papal infal­libility, and transubstantiation all grew up in this period, but were in germ form in the Thyatiran church.
