The Dynamic For the Church at Smyrna
"He
that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death."
No matter how
pressing the tribulation. Even though it reaches to the point where saints lose
their physical life, there is a limit to which such persecution can go.
The
overcoming saint is the one who has real life, eternal life. Such life moves in
a "continuous movement" of triumph (1 John 5:4). There is no earthly sorrow or
bereavement, no loss, even of that which is held most highly by men, physical
life, that threatens or thwarts this train of triumph. It goes onward and
upward looking to that perfect day.
"For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith."
And where
physical death, the first death, may see to snatch away that most precious of
all things, yet this person cannot be hurt of the second death.
