The Deterioration in the Order of the Churches

In Ephesus, they lost their first love. And the earnest longing and expectation for the coming of the Lord disappeared.

In this church that is carried on, there is triumph beyond the darkness; there is the first death, but no second death. But still there is no blessed hope that Jesus may come at any moment and deliver them from the horrors through which they are passing. They have settled down to a workaday world that moves slowly on through toil and sorrow with nothing to break the awful monotony; with no hope that tomorrow may bring the break of day.
