THE UNDERLYING PRINCIPLES OF THE DOCTRINE OF NON-RESISTANCE IN
WAR
lb. The kingdom of Christ is not of this world, and therefore the subjects of this should not employ force to maintain it.
John 18:36
2b. The Spirit of Christ is not of this world, and therefore those who possess that Spirit cannot use carnal methods of warfare.
Luke 9:52-56
One of the fruits of the Spirit is peace which makes peacemakers (Matt. 5:9; Gal. 5:22).
3b. The purpose of Christ is not of this world, for He did not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them.
Luke 9:56
If Christians are carrying on the purpose of Christ, then they cannot possibly take the lives of men.
4b. The methods of Christ are not of this world for He does not use carnal weapons in His warfare.
2 Cor. 10:3-4
Of all those who might have been provoked to use physical force in His defense, He did not. And as a class of people Christians have been the same through the years. Jas. 5:6
5b. The evaluations of Christ are not of this world, for he diverged sharply from those in His day.
Mark 8:35; John 12:25
The sense is ultimately spiritual, but the outcome turns on the values one places upon things in this world. If life in this world is more important than life with Christ, then he will resort to any method; even physical force, to save his life. One may lose his life in this world physically, but save it spiritually. In the end he will get back the physical too.
6b. The protection of Christ is not of this world but is from above. It will operate when in accordance with God's will.
Matt. 26:53, 54; Acts 5:19, 26, 38, 39; Acts 12:1-17
God may use angels, public sentiment, fallacious reasoning and prayers. But again, it may be His will for one to die, as James.
