Fear God
Acts 10:34;
end of Psa. 111 & beginning of 112
Luke 12:5
Jesus
taught His disciples after being wrongly treated and provoked with questions
that proper fear as being that of an absolute trust in that God Who numbered
the hairs of their head. [Luke 12:7]
How brazen men are today concerning this truth.
"But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed
hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him." [Luke 12:5]
Peter in Acts 10:34-35 had by this time encountered many
things since his salvation and the entry into his apostolic ministry. One such
was his vision and his meeting of Cornelius the Gentile. Listen to his words
after that experience: "I most
certainly understand now that
God is not One to show partiality,
but in every nation
the man who fears Him
and does what is right is welcome to Him.” The word which He sent to the sons
of Israel, preaching peace
through Jesus Christ [He is Lord of all.]
Peter had realized that
God is not a capricious selector of men upon the basis of something accidental
in their circumstances, not men doing good just to escape the policeman; but
because of their spiritual convictions causing them to act. God sees in every
man His own image.
The fear of God is the beginning of
wisdom. Beginning of wisdom. Psa. 11:10; Prov. 9:10. Cf. Article on wisdom; shed abroad.
Since the
love of God has been shed abroad in
our hearts, this makes us keen to
the agony in His heart. [Rom. 5:5.]
