THE POTENTIALITY OF THIS PERSON IN THE VISION

The Potentiality of This Person in the Vision

vss. 14b-15 "And his eyes were as a flame of fire;" "And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters."

His omniscience is indicated by his eyes. "And his eyes were as a flame of fire."

Eyes mark intelligence, and these eyes supreme intelligence and an all-knowing mind. These eyes are too pure to behold evil (Hab. 1:13). There is nothing hidden from these eyes (Heb. 4:13). The fire surely represents God in his consuming anger against sin (Heb. 12:29). And he will search out sin and reward it accordingly (Rev. 2:23).
13 "Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?"
13 "Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do."
29 "For our God is a consuming fire."
23 "And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works."
His omnipresence is indicated by his feet of brass. "And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace."

Feet are the instruments of movement and progress. These are like burnished brass or bronze refined in a furnace (Ezek. 1:7). Eyes that search out sin will finally force movement in the direction of the sinner to deal in judgment. This then is a symbol of judgment, beautiful and terrible (Rev. 19:15; Isa. 63:3). Since God is everywhere, men will not be able to escape. Rev. 6:16-17; cf. John 5:22, 27. The brazen serpent was a symbol of judgment (John 3:14).
7 "And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calf's foot: and they sparkled like the color of burnished brass."
15 "And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God."
3 "I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment."
16-17 "And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:" "For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?"
22 "For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son."
27 "And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man."
34 "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up."
His omnipotence is indicated by the sound of voice. "And his voice as the sound of many waters."

2 "And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east: and his voice was like a noise of many waters: and the earth shined with his glory."
4 "The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea."

29:1 "A Psalm of David. Give unto the LORD, O ye mighty, give unto the LORD glory and strength."
"Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.""The voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth: the LORD is upon many waters."
"The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.""The voice of the LORD breaketh the cedars; yea, the LORD breaketh the cedars of Lebanon.""He maketh them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn." "The voice of the LORD divideth the flames of fire.""The voice of the LORD shaketh the wilderness; the LORD shaketh the wilderness of Kadesh."
"The voice of the LORD maketh the hinds to calve, and discovereth the forests: and in his temple doth every one speak of his glory."10  "The LORD sitteth upon the flood; yea, the LORD sitteth King for ever."
11  "The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace."

This expression indicates the tremendous range of his voice. There is everything from the quiet ripple of the brook to the roar of the great ocean (Ezek. 1:24. cf. also Song of Sol. 2:8, 10; 5:2 and Jer. 25:30).

24 "And when they went, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of great waters, as the voice of the Almighty, the voice of speech, as the noise of an host: when they stood, they let down their wings."
8 "The voice of my beloved! behold, he cometh leaping upon the mountains, skipping upon the hills."
10 "My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away."
2 "I sleep, but my heart waketh: it is the voice of my beloved that knocketh, saying, Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled: for my head is filled with dew, and my locks with the drops of the night."
30 "Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them, The LORD shall roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he shall mightily roar upon his habitation; he shall give a shout, as they that tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth."
It was the voice of the Lord at Sinai that struck fear to men (Ex. 19:13, 16, 19; 20:18-19; Heb. 12:18-19). It will be the voice of the Lord when he speaks again in the last trump that will strike fear to men (Heb. 12:25-26).

13 "There shall not an hand touch it, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, it shall not live: when the trumpet soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount."
16 "And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled."
19 "And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice."
18-19 "And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off." "And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die."
18-19 "For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest," "And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard entreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more."
25-26 "See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:" "Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven."
