Mergence in Relation to the Christian
"And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man."
Christ appears as one like Son of Man
This is not
"the" or "a" but simply "Son of Man." This lays
emphasis upon His humanity and therefore His identification with mankind. This
phrase was the favorite expression of Christ by which He referred to Himself.
This is not intended to suggest mere humanity, but true humanity incorporated
into Deity.
This
unveiling creates a sense of fellowship in John and all those to whom
this message comes.
There is
recognition that Christ is bone of our bone and flesh of our flesh and is
perfectly constituted to know and understand humanity. This makes Him a perfect
mediator and high priest.
But this
Son of Man is infinitely removed from all other men in the amazing
splendor of His glory.
The
description which follows sets Him apart from all other men. Here is perfect
humanity and essential deity merged perfectly in one person. No artist could
even sketch this picture upon canvas. Words alone can adequately describe, and
God alone could bring these two natures into perfect mergence.
