Christian Sanctification is a Threefold Work
CHRISTIAN SANCTIFICATION -- TO SET APART FROM SIN UNTO GOD
Past sanctification is through
the blood of Christ (Cross). It is foundational. It represents separation from
a sinful world and separation to the divine ownership resulting in the holy
position with the responsibility to believe. Cf. Heb. 13:12 "Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate."
Present sanctification is by the
word of Christ (Washing of the Word). It is progressive. It represents
separation from a simple walk and separation to a divine character, resulting
in a holy growth with the responsibility to know, reckon, present and obey. Cf. John 17:17 "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth."
Future sanctification is by the
presence of Christ (Marriage Supper). It is complementary. It is separation
from a sinful nature with separation to a divine perfection, resulting in all
holy state with the responsibility to behold. Cf. 1 Thess. 5:23 "And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ."
All presented in symbols at the threefold communion service in John 13.
