Exhortation
to Remembrance
"This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance." 2 Pet. 3:1
Remembrance
in vs. 1 is the first. This marks
the need for activity of the mind. This epistle of Peter does not mark his
first but his final attempt to stir up with letters the minds of these
brethren. As in his first epistle, so also now in this second and final
epistle, he is calling to their minds not merely what he wrote in his former
epistle, but what they knew previously through the writings of the prophets and
through the commandment of the Lord, heralded by the apostles. This message is
the gospel message with its commencement, its continuation, and its
consummation.
