The Second Death is Measured out to all the Wicked
Vs. 14-15
"And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire."
The Experience of Separation, Namely, Death is With Lake of Fire vs. 14a
"And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire."
All the wicked have been raised from the dead. All will suffer death again. But this experience of separation of body and soul will take place in the Lake of Fire.
"cast in to the lake of fire" All who will have been confined in death and Hades will be cast into everlasting fire, along with the devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41), who are already there, and with the beast and the false prophet.
The Place of
Separation, Hades, Will be Merged with the Lake of Fire vs. 14a
"And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire."
"Hell"
AV. "Hades" RV is the place where the wicked soul and spirit were
confined at death and confined in torment (cf. Luke 16:19-31). This will no
longer be needed as a temporary prison house. So it will be merged with the
Lake of Fire.
The Identity of
Separation is the Second Physical Death vs. 14b
"This is the second death."
Since all the
wicked are to be cast into the Lake of Fire, they will suffer the second
physical death there. The body will be consumed by the flames and the spirit
and soul will be confined there throughout eternity. An eternity without a body to perform the desires gained over a lifetime. What a personal made hell.
The Victims of
Separation are Those Whose Names do not Appear in the Book of Life vs. 15
"And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire."
Here is the warning to all who today are rejecting the Lamb of God. Today He is a Savior. Tomorrow He will be the Judge. Let no one imagine that there will be any mercy at this throne. If the book of life does not contain the name, then that person will be cast into the Lake of Fire.
Books are kept by God.
"book of life" Assuming that the names of all who begin physical life are initially inscribed in the book of life, their retention there depends on whether they accept Christ as personal Savior after they become conscious and accountable sinners and before they die. Otherwise their names will be blotted out of the book of life (see on Revelation 3:5; 22:19).
