The Lord of Lords and the Nations
vs. 11-21
"And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and He that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns; and He had a name written, that no man knew, but He Himself. And He was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed Him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of His mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it He should smite the nations: and He shall rule them with a rod of iron: and He treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He hath on His vesture and on His thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great. And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him that sat on the horse, and against His army. And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. And the remnant were slain with the sword of Him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of His mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh."
The Eternal
Heritage of the Son of God Now Comes to Him
(Psa. 2:1-12).
"Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him."
The Victorious Armies of Heaven Arrive on the Scenes vs. 11-16
"And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and He that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He doth judge and make war. The General Christ
Leads the Armies of Heaven vs. 11-13, 16
"And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and He that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns; and He had a name written, that no man knew, but He Himself. And He was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and His name is called The Word of God."
This One comes from heaven, there is no doubt. He is called Faithful and True. His eyes are a flame of fire. On His head are many crowns. His name written is known only to Himself. His vesture has been dipped in blood. His name is the Word of God. On vesture and thigh is the name, King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
The Soldier Saints Composing the Army of Heaven vs. 14
"And the armies which were in heaven followed Him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean."
The armies of
heaven follow on white horses. They are clothed in fine, white linen, hence righteous.
Now in reference to the saints, the chosen elect body, who shall reign with Christ, we find Rev. 19:14; Jude 14, etc. (see Prop. 154), that they are united with Christ in executing judgment, that Rev. 2:26-27, they shall have "power over the nations" to "rule them with a rod of iron;" and hence it is written, Ps. 149:9 that "this honor have all His saints" "to execute the judgment written," etc.
The Campaign
Equipment of the Armies of Heaven vs. 15-16
"And out of His mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it He should smite the nations: and He shall rule them with a rod of iron: and He treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He hath on His vesture and on His thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS."
There is just one of the entire company with any weapon of warfare, and that is the General. He does not have a carnal, material weapon. He has a sharp, two-edged sword. That sword is the almighty word of God.
The Warfare Methods of the Armies of Heaven vs. 11, 15
"And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and He that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He doth judge and make war. And out of His mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it He should smite the nations: and He shall rule them with a rod of iron: and He treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God."
The basis of the warfare is righteousness (vs. 11). The swiftness is marked by the use of the sword (vs. 15). The inexorableness of the judgment is marked by the fact that he treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God (vs. 15).
The Vulturous Fowls of the Air vs. 17-18
"And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great."
The Invitation to
the Supper of the Great God vs. 17
"And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;"
This is made by an angel standing in the sun. It is
given to the carrion-eating birds of the earth. So great is the supper that all
the birds are called.
The Menu of the Banquet is the Flesh of the Slain vs. 18
"That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great."
The flesh of
kings, captains, mighty men; horses and horsemen; slaves and free men; small
and great. Evidently the carnage will be beyond conception. Cf. 14:17-20.
"And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle. And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe. And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs."
The Vanquished Enemies of Earth
Vs. 19-21
"And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him that sat on the horse, and against His army.
The Confederacy of Nations Under the Leadership of
the Beast Constitute the Enemies of Christ vs. 19
"And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army."
They are
definitely arrayed against Christ.
The Beast and his Prophet were Taken First and Cast
Alive into the Lake of Fire. vs. 20
"And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone."
It appears that without effort, Christ by spoken
word reaches right over the armies of the Antichrist and takes these
incorrigibles and deals with them immediately.
The Remnant was Slain with the Sword of Christ's
Mouth and the Fowls of Earth had Their Fill of Flesh vs. 21
"And the remnant were slain with the sword of Him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of His mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh."
