CLIMATE CHANGE - ITS CAUSES
Climate change heats up the headlines but is the earth
really getting warmer? Well sort of. A
warming trend existed for much of the twentieth century, likely the last 30-50
years. But this warming trend leveled off in 1998. Some scientists and
activists claim that humans produce carbon dioxide which causes global warming.
They often point to the hockey stick diagram used in the 90’s to supposedly
prove their point but research shows that the rise in CO2 happened after
the earth’s temperature started rising. That means CO2 man made or
otherwise did not cause the warming after all. And 2 significant changes
happened within the last 1000 years, the medieval warm period and the Little
Ice Age. Those changes happened before human industry could have influenced
climate. So it’s much more likely that climate change happens naturally. For
example Climate Physics link fluctuating climate outputs to earth’s temperature.
Should responsible citizens blame themselves for global climate change? Science
has not ruled out human activity as playing a small role but factors far beyond
man make up most or all of climate change. But it does matter that we take care
of earth. Not because our failures could entirely wreck the environment, but
because God placed us here to take care of His creation. And to know and enjoy Him
through the things that have been made. Romans 1:20.
