WRONG ATTITUDES TOWARD THE DEATH OF CHRIST
Several
Appear in the Bible
The Attitude of Ignorance - Matt 16:21-23 "From that time forth began Jesus to show unto His disciples, how that He must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. Then Peter took Him, and began to rebuke Him, saying, Be it far from Thee, Lord: this shall not be unto Thee. But He turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind Me, Satan: thou art an offence unto Me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men."
Says the
Cross was Unnecessary
The
Attitude of Worldly Wisdom - 1 Cor. 1:18 "For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God."
Regards the
Cross as Foolishness
(Cross is not
foolishness. It is foolishness to them that perish.)The Attitude of Contempt - Heb. 10:29 "Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?"
The Death of
an Ordinary Man
Many such as Freemasonry, Christian Scientist, Jehovah-Witness, Islam, Mormon, The Farm, etc.The Attitude of Heresy - 2 Peter 2:1 "But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction."
Deny its
Saving Value
The
Attitude of Apostasy - Heb. 6:6 "If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame."
Regard it as Deserved
-- They Would Crucify Him Again!
The Attitude of Presumption - Phil. 3:18-19 "(For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)"
Profess to Accept it as Atonement for their Sin, and then go on Sinning. This is possibly the most subtle and dangerous attitude of all, for their walk denies their talk.
